California State University at Northridge

The Sepulveda VA Medical Center - Northridge is an institution situated inside the San Fernando Valley, fifteen miles to the northwest from Los Angeles. It caters to veterans and residents in the region. Since it was established on the 25th of May in the year 1955. The institution has served as the home of numerous research projects. It has also conducted research on neurological and aging diseases. Apart from medical care, the center provides medical interns with training and research into heart disease and Geriatrics.

The VA Hospital has been home to a pilot program to provide outpatient services since. The program is referred to as Pilot Ambulatory Care and Education (PACE). PACE can be a viable alternative to hospitalization that is long-term and is viewed as an option to save money. For example, PACE can help addicts quit alcohol and drugs. Participants who successfully complete the program usually attend group therapy sessions to ensure they stay in line and keep their relapse.

There are some who oppose the idea to transform the facility into an outpatient clinic assert that the facility is less appealing for veterans. They argue that driving to the VA is going to be an obstacle for many. But, there are those who would prefer the hospital remain as an institution.

Based on Dave Gorman, the deputy national legislative director of Disabled American Veterans in Washington, D.C., the move to an outpatient facility is logical. There is a need for an outpatient facility. VA budget has been shrinking and there's a shortage of beds available for patients. In the event that Sepulveda VA Hospital was converted to an outpatient clinic it could continue to run its research programs as well as keep its staff members. If the facility was to undergo a renovation, this could run as high up to $188 million.

At present, there are more than 1,700 people employed at Sepulveda VA. Sepulveda VA. The number of employees is likely to fall in the coming years according to David Langeness, spokesman for the Hospital Council of Southern California. If the hospital was to undergo a renovation, it might have to let some employees go as well as the budget could be greater.

According to a spokeswoman from the VA the cost would be more to refurbish the hospital than be to transform it into an outpatient clinic. This means that 193 beds in the West Los Angeles VA hospital would be put to use, and the outpatient programs that are currently in place in Sepulveda VA would continue. Sepulveda VA would continue.

People who favor the move to outpatient care believe it will enable the more vets to get treatment close to their homes. At present, VA hospitals are primarily concentrated on treating difficult patients, which includes patients suffering from a range of medical ailments that are debilitating.

As the number of veterans gets older and becomes less active, there will be fewer beds for care that is acute. This means that there will be a demand for more long-term treatment. Three options are available available to the hospital to close: rebuild, or convert into an outside-patient hospital.

Many private institutions situated in Los Angeles have voiced opposition to the idea of building the Sepulveda VA Hospital. Most private hospital are represented in the Hospital Council of Southern California that is comprised of majority of private hospitals.
